IPG, 19oct09

Well, we have not posted in a while.  Sometimes I wonder why.  The reality is we have not done enough together lately, since the Meridian City Hall Show.  I guess, we needed a hiatus.  But now that summer is dead, and fall has risen, I hope we be able to post more stuff.  Today’s post covers three of our painters — enjoy.

Husband O' Bernice, Ellen Garrard

“Husband O’ Bernice”, WIP, 16×12 oil on canvas, by Ellen Garrard, 19oct09.

Ellen is now going to focus on portraits, instead of landscapes.  We are encouraging her in this because we noticed that she models wildlife and figures very well.  Besides, her friend Lauri Asahara likes to paint portraits as well, so now we have a pair of figure painters.  What do you all think?

Eagle Creek, Kevin Hughes

“Eagle Creek Cliffs”, 16×12 oil on canvas, by Kevin Hughes, 19oct09.

Kevin has just returned from a trip to the Oregon coast, so he is hoping to do some Oregon landscapes this month.  Fred Choate has done a few paintings using this motif as well.

Dusk at Cape Disapointment

“Dusk at Cape Disapointment”, 11×14 oil on canvas, by Rog Lyngaas, 19oct09.

Enjoy.

We Is Well Hung!

Posted in Idaho, Meridian, Show, commentary with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 25, 2009 by Rog

That is right.  According to our Mentor Member, Fred Choate, we are “well hung”.  He is, of course, referring to the IPG’s new art show in the city hall of Meridian, Idaho.  We have 41 paintings by 9 artists shown together.  In aggragate; five of these paintings are “plein air – oils”,  32 are studio oil landscape paintings, one is an acrylic landscape, and 3 are watercolor still life’s.  This marks a difference from our previous show, which was all oil landscape paintings.  We have been prolific enough in the last 3 months to produce all new paintings for this show.  I understand there is only minimal repetition from the previous show.

Below is the right side of the Initial Point Gallery, where the paintings of Fred Choate, Craig Arrowood, Ann Samuelsen, Tony Tramp, and Kevin Hughes are shown.

And on the left side of the gallery are the paintings by Rog Lyngaas, Ellen Garrard, Lauri Asahara, and Kathy Earnhart.

All of these paintings are available for purchase; ranging from 150 to 1100 dollars.

If you are unaware, visitation  to this gallery is from 8am to 5pm, during the week.  It is not open on the weekend.  One side of the gallery, is the entrance to the Mayors office.  So I guess we could claim that our paintings grace the mayors office.  Or maybe we should better say “Meridian’s Mayor has graced our paintings”, which may be more accurate.  We are lucky to land a show is such a nice public gallery.  Our show will last 5 weeks, till the 28th of August.  What is really great about all this is, if anyone needs a time out from visiting the mayor, they can just walk into the gallery next door and chill out and meditate on world peace and the like.  Below is an example of the lively discussions available at the gallery.

The grand opening reception for this show will be on Wednesday, July 29th from 11am to 2pm.  We will see you there, even if you only came for a deli treat provided by one of our members who is a “Deli Guy”.  Enjoy.

Return of Logo O’ God!

Below is not our press release, this is just our poster for distribution, of our next show.  It marks the blatant return of the color version of our gaudi & ungodly logo.  Why?  Because it attracts attention.  In our press release we use a value mapped black and white version of this painting… which is what you see as our blog masthead.

BTW, I spelled Ry Wilson’s name wrong here.  Only after the printing did I realize this.  Sorry, Ry.

Regardless, we look forward to seeing you all at the grand opening on the 29th of July!

Then there were Ten…

Rounding out our group show in Meridian, will include four other painters.  Their work is sampled here…

Agave I - Laurie

“Agave I”, 29×22 watercolor on paper, by Laurie Asahara.

It is a pleasure to add Laurie to the show.  Now we have four people experienced in watercolors involved with our guild.  Laurie mainly paints portraits, so her included paintings in the show are the antithesis of such.  We intend to kidnap her and take her up some mountain to do a plein air landscape oil painting.

Coastal view II - Kathy

“Coastal View II”, 12×16 oil on canvas, by Kathy Earnhart.

Some of you may know Kathy already.  She is the office manager of Quality Art, which is Boise, Idaho’s art supply warehouse.

Mountain Run - Tony

“Mountain Run”, 11×14 oil on canvas, by Anton Tramp.

Ry's Creek - Ry

“Ry’s Creek”, 9×12 oil on canvas, by Ry Wilson.

Kathy, Anton, and Ry were all in the Basement Gallery show as well.
